Officer of the Quarter

Officer Matthew Rodriguez

Officer Matt Rodriguez is a native Houstonian, born and raised in Houston, TX!

He is a devoted husband, father, and "dog dad," as well as a collector of various items, a coffee connoisseur, and a massive foodie.

Officer Rodriguez now has over a decade of law enforcement experience within Harris County.  He joined the Spring Valley Village Police Department in 2023.  He is currently assigned to the B-Side Night Shift as a Patrol Officer. Additionally, he serves as a Field Training Officer (F.T.O) and holds his Advanced TCOLE license while actively pursuing his Master TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) license.

In recognition of his exceptional service, Rodriguez received the “Life Saving Award” in 2024 for his critical role in providing lifesaving aid during a medical emergency, working alongside his B-Side Nights teammates.

Before joining Spring Valley Village, Officer Rodriguez spent eight years at the Harris County Constable's Office, where he actively engaged in community policing efforts in Southwest and Southeast Houston, focusing on bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community.

Officer Rodriguez always has a smile on and has voiced several times how glad he is to be with SVVPD, much of that because of our great neighborhoods and resident support.

Residents For Responders (RFR), a 501(c)(3) organization, was formed in 2022 by residents of Spring Valley Village (SVV) and Hilshire Village (HV).  Our purpose is to provide a vehicle for the residents and community to come together and show support for the officers of the Spring Valley Village Police Department (SVVPD)

Crime throughout the country and especially in Harris County has risen to record levels in recent years. However, in Spring Valley Village and Hilshire Village, residents are fortunate to live in two of the safest communities in the State of Texas and certainly in Harris County.  The main reason for this is our SVVPD.

Residents For Responders' mission is to recognize, honor and humanize our SVVPD officers.  Additionally, we provide financial support to our officers when needed, coming directly from the residents and community they protect and serve.  Examples are helping with house damage from a hurricane, providing meals to the family in a failing health situation and assisting with medical bills from a traumatic accident.

This organization seeks to provide a very unique and special environment for these officers, where the support of the community directly impacts them on a regular basis.

Because of the generosity of our community, we are making a difference.  There is much more we can do, but below are some of the highlights since we began -

  • Awarded every officer with anniversary gift cards beginning in November 2022

  • Recognize an Officer of the Quarter with gift cards and coupons from area businesses

  • Provided every officer with a Goode Co. Pecan Pie in the wooden box for Thanksgiving (2022/2023/2024)

  • Gifted monogrammed duffel bags to every officer for Christmas 2023 (photo above)

We encourage you to join us and show your support for the SVVPD by supporting Residents For Responders.  Several levels of giving allow you to make a huge impact on how we can support the SVVPD.  Thank you for your support!  As a Chief's Member or Gold Shield Member you will receive a yard sign and window decals.  As a Silver Member, you will receive window decals for your vehicles to show your support.

You may never need to call the SVVPD, but you can take comfort in knowing that if you do, they will likely be at your home in less than 3 minutes.  Additionally, you may not be aware of this, but criminals know to steer clear of SVV/HV.  In a high percentage of felony arrests made by SVVPD, which may have started from a traffic stop, the criminals did not realize they were in Spring Valley/Hilshire Village or they would have driven around it.  That is because of our SVVPD!

2024 had been a very good year for the continued very low crime rates in Spring Valley/Hilshire Village.  We are the safest community in Harris County!

Below is a graph showing 2023 crime stats from the four (4) surrounding HPD beats around Spring Valley/Hilshire Village!  As you can see, we are in a bubble where kids can run, play, ride bikes in freedom through our neighborhoods, this is no accident.
